Keynote Speech
The Egg + Snowflake Zeitgeist

Two Global Consumer Trends Shaping Lifestyle,Travel and Technology
• A zeitgeist is a general outlook of a specific period of time. So what do "eggs" and "snowflakes" have in common, and what do they have to do with consumer trends, lifestyle, travel and technology? Learn how the "egg" trend is causing consumers to adopt "Incubating" behavior, which is a fresh new spin on Faith Popcorn's "Cocooning" trend of the 1990's. Understand why consumers are also "snowflaking" and using social networking as a way to take chances and try new things. A simple metaphor of eggs and snowflakes is used to explain why two complex macro consumer trends are impacting the future of the airline and entertainment industries. Understanding eggs and snowflakes will help WAEA members design products, services, entertainment and experiences to cater to shifting consumer attitudes and behaviors.

Repurposing COTS for IFE versus Purpose-built Platforms
• A proliferation of consumer-off-the-shelf (COTS) portable media players are now being offered in IFE. In at least one case, an airline purchased iPads directly from Apple and contracted with an IFE supplier to repurpose them for IFE. Is this a trend or an anomaly? Can COTS devices be successfully repurposed for IFE? Will they qualify for Early Window content? A panel representative of portables suppliers, content service providers, content providers and airlines discusses the issues.

Inflight Broadband Strategy – Looking Beyond the Internet
• In-flight broadband has become a must-have service for airlines around the world. But can an airline make its investment in in-flight connectivity profitable merely by selling its passengers Internet access? What other broadband services can an airline leverage, once it has equipped its fleet with Wi-Fi, to add revenue, reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction? A panel of industry experts, including airline representatives, discuss the opportunities.

Avion Awards – Best Achievements in IFE - Be an Award Winning Company!
• The Avion Awards honor those member companies who have been beyond successful in their field or project. These awards are judged by industry peers and media. Alfy Veretto of Virgin America will present on the airline’s Best Single Achievement in IFE Avion Award. Fran Phillips of Aircell will present the vendor’s Best Single Achievement in Technology Avion Award.

Social Media – Does it Work for the Airline Industry?
• Virgin America’s presentation will cover their overall social media strategy with a few examples (i.e., Promoted Tweets, Facebook coverage, etc.).

Safety Videos - Put Down that Magazine and Pay Attention, You Might Learn Something
• We had to get your attention, just like the safety demonstration videos playing on many flights today. Using examples from several well-known airline safety videos, find out how you can produce a video that not only delivers a crucial safety message, but captures attention both on and off an aircraft in a way that no manual demo could ever do.

Media Programming
• Join us for a stimulating panel discussion on a new strategy for media programming: harnessing the success of popular media brands onboard by offering customized branded programming blocks. What are the pros and cons of such a strategy and how does it impact the individual airlines IFE brand? Airlines, distributors and CSPs will debate the issue.

What’s Your Technology Committee Done for You Lately?!
• Hear what the TC is working now, and let them know what you're interested in for the future. Learn about Watermarking, MPEG4, Digital Advertising Standards, and ask our panel of IFE experts about future tech. This is a chance to see what you're missing if you're not involved in the TC!

Managing the Passenger Experience in the New Generation of Aircraft
•This panel will explore the different ways airlines can differentiate their inflight product and passenger experience on new aircraft types. Representatives from leading air frame manufacturers will address opportunities to enhance the passenger experience while select IFE providers will discuss developing solutions that go beyond passengers’ expectations.
